Trinidad

The city of Trinidad was the third town founded by the Spanish Crown in Cuba in early 1514. The village was founded with the presence of the Governor Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, the city is changed rapidly, thanks to the entrepreneurial attitude of its inhabitants, which enabled him to be one of the most prosperous of the Greater Antilles.

The conservation and restoration work undertaken by specialists in this area of south central Cuba, and who profess to love their city inhabitants, gave one of the best preserved colonial cities not only in Cuba but also from America, and inscribed on the List of World Heritage by UNESCO, along the Valley of the Ingenios in 1988, an area where the sugar industry prospered to half of the nineteenth century.

The sugar production, which enriched the owners of these mills, had emerged in Trinidad in the Valley, mansions and palaces that are now the pride of the Cuban culture. The date of its founding is celebrated every year with a Week of Culture Trinitaria.
