Restored hacienda houses in Trinidad de Cuba

The restoration of the hacienda houses in the Valle de los Ingenios, located in the southern city of Trinidad, is driven today by the heritage and tourism value of these properties.

Reiner Rendón, provincial delegate of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur), told Radio Sancti Spíritus that the capital refurbishment of the Guachinango hacienda house was completed and now the final details are being worked on, which will allow it to be commercialized.

He added that the place has a strong gastronomic infrastructure, where hiking will be done as it is a product of nature.

It will have three rooms for tourist accommodation of the highest quality standard, as well as a menu of local, regional and Creole cuisine, he said.

Guachinango -will reopen before the end of this year- has already provided gastronomic services and is the only exponent in the Valley of the Sugar Mills belonging to a cattle ranch, while the interior and exterior walls stand out mural paintings.

Buena Vista is also restored, a mansion of neoclassical influence that belonged to the wealthy landowner Justo Germán Cantero, considered one of the most elegant of his time.

Shortly work will be held in the Manaca Iznaga farmhouse, a place that is very visited in the Trinitarian town, both because of the presence of a restaurant there and because of the bell tower, which is 43.5 meters high, about which several legends were woven.

For its part, the hacienda houses of Guáimaro and San Isidro de los Destiladeros offer tours to tourists visiting the Valle de los Ingenios or San Luis.

Recognized by Unesco in 1988 as a Cultural Heritage of Humanity, next to the historical Trinitarian center, the valley covers about 250 square kilometers, extension in which mid-nineteenth century there were more than 50 sugar mills.

The integral rehabilitation program of the valley - where more than 10 hacienda houses were erected - is promoted since 2009 by the Mintur, with the participation of more than a dozen entities and organizations, among them, the Office of the Conservator of Trinidad.
