Moa

Moa Municipality is located in the extreme east of Holguín province, in Cuba. It is essentially mountainous with a narrow, semi flat strip on the Atlantic coast, its northern limit, where the main population conglomerates settle.

Its geography extends throughout the Sagua-Baracoa mountain range that is part of the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, rich in fauna and flora with many native species. In this beautiful landscape, whose highest height is El Toldo peak, with a height of 1,177 meters, 4 rural settlements are located, which have as a fundamental economic activity the cultivation of coffee, forestry and mining.

In the municipality there are the main deposits of lateritic minerals with high contents of iron, nickel, cobalt and other minerals, in which a powerful nickel industry with an annual productive volume of more than 65,000 tons has been developed. The municipal seat is the city of Moa.

Its two nickel factories are the main economic wealth with an important contribution to the GDP of Cuba being one of the first producers in the world. Its factories: Ernesto Che Guevara and Pedro Sotto Alba lead metallurgical production.
