Dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Declaration of the Valley of Viñales as a Cultural Landscape on the World Heritage List, the event was represented gastronomy, crafts, music, folk dances and traditional local games.

The concentration of geological, physical, natural, social and cultural phenomena are the causes of the multiple categorizations that this site possesses; Named National Monument in 1979 and inscribed on December 1, 1999 as Cultural Landscape in the World Heritage List, the area was also included in the National System of Protected Areas with the category of National Park Management.

The Festival, an event acclaimed by the people and prepared with passion by its organizers, had its inauguration in the restaurant of the extra-hotel Palmares, Casa Don Tomás, the oldest in Viñales, built in 1889 by a Spaniard, and that has belonged to Palmares for 30 years.

In that symbolic place, the guests had the opportunity to enjoy a peasant night and taste a menu specially prepared with typical Cuban products, where the cocktails made with trapiche (old machine with which the juice was extracted from the sugar cane was not lacking) ), and the presentation of the dish that characterizes the House, a combination of rice with meat and seafood, chicken, pork, ham, fish, lobster and sausage, served in a clay pot, fresh salads from the Valley, fried malanga (characteristic of local foods) and for dessert, torreja with ice cream.

The dinner offered culminated with coffee, cigars and guayabita (the Guayabita del Pinar is a liquor produced from guayabita, a fruit that grows only in this region, in the northern part, below the pines and where the only factory is located exists of this product in Cuba and in the world).

In the opening remarks, Katherine Müller-Marín, director of the UNESCO Regional Office of Culture for Latin America and the Caribbean, explained to those present that “When a heritage site is inscribed on the List of Humanity it is because it has there has been a very strong work behind, a work of years of research, of foundation and of trying something that is the most important thing, which has what we call the exceptional universal value ”.
