The Medical Home Asturian Center known as the "Covadonga" recreation area was owned by Mrs. Leonor Herrera. Also raised in their farms Cerro Fernandina Counts of Santovenia of Lombillo and Peñalver.

For the year 1843 existed in the municipality of Cerro 5 large country houses, some 23 notable for its features and over 300 individuals from wealthy Havana. By that year the population was about 2125 inhabitants.
