News about tourism and travel to Cuba

The opening of North American tourism to Cuba would be "very positive" for the island but it outlines complexities. Mesa-Lago, professor of the University of Pittsburgh, and Everleny, of the Center of Studies for the Cuban Economy, referred to the matter in Havana, where they participate in the debates of the X Social Week of the Church.

Mesa-Lago affirmed that to open the North American tourism would be very positive for Cuba, because there is hotel capacity to receive that flow of visitors that would compensate its economic dependence of Venezuela.

But in their opinion, it bears a "very complex" juridical problem, since there are experts that consider that that measure you could not apply without reforming the Law Helms-Burton while others believe that it can be carried out by executive decision.

Everleny, on the other hand, believes that to eliminate the restrictions for the North American tourism would "be one of the most momentous measures that can happen" because it takes harnessed to unblock elements that are braking the development of financial topics in the island.
