Cuba will increase tourism
Cuba will close 2009 with a tourist growth of 3.3%, despite the ravages of global economic crisis, as outlined by the Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero. The owner said that before the end of this year the island will serve to 2,425,000 visitors, exceeding the 2,348,000 recorded in 2008.

He noted that as the main source market continues Canada, with approximately 900,000 visitors so far, followed by the UK and Spain. The latter nation recorded notable increases in recent months.

In the year were completed about 2,000 new rooms in the main entertainment centers in the country, although Havana maintains the fundamental weight. Marrero also noted that 60% of tourism products marketed in the network correspond to extra-hotel accommodation and local tourism. This industry currently employs 200,000 workers.

As a development strategy between 2010 and 2015 include new investments in the eastern region, Guardalavaca, Cayo Coco and Trinidad in the central and the western resort of Varadero and the nation's capital. Among the projections mentioned the creation of several golf courses, due to the large demand for this sport in the world.

Another fundamental purpose is the training of tourism personnel through new methods. They contain the idea of transforming every hotel, restaurant or recreational in school, to achieve the best executives and specialists. Quality tourism is the constant goal of sector authorities in Cuba, said Marrero.

Cuban tourism encompasses more than 47,000 rooms in 300 hotels located throughout the country, particularly in eight development regions, where the Capital is one of the essential steps of this industry.

Marrero attended the recent opening of a planetarium in Old Havana and confirmed the sector's development in that part of the country.
