Viņales

Natural glory attractive in view of the lovers of native and pleasure, it combines a mosaic of values that place it in the first steps of our island destinations. Represented as a UNESCO World Heritage.

The Viñales Valley is located in western Cuba in Pinar del Rio province, preferred by those visitors with special interest in the form of nature tourism, with a story that many put in more than 300 million years. The valley is 132 km2 in extent, is also the most prominent karstic valleys of the largest of the Antilles, surrounded by these unique elevations rounded summits and atypical mogotes calls.

The valley is a unique expression, a mixture of nature with unmatched environmental conservation and human activities in agricultural work, especially the cultivation of snuff, resulting in a cultural landscape. The town of Viñales, located in the heart of the valley, is presented as a traditional place for settlement of farmers, with its main street flanked by houses and galleries of columns of red tiles.

Plant belonging to the place is very linked to their age, it has 17 endemic varieties are impossible to find elsewhere in the world, including the cork palm, which is considered a living fossil dating back to the Jurassic and unique in our island and the planet. The fauna also shows a marked endemism, which protrude from the bird zunzún, trogans, cartacuba, tomeguín nightingale and the pinewood.

In one of the mogotes, visitors encounter a wall of the largest opencast prehistory of the world. In the same area is located the Hermitage, with tours in touch with nature as the "Wonders of Viñales, a hike through the Sierra del Infierno, allowing you to observe the natural flora and fauna, especially birds and look closely the cork palm.

Also in the valley region is the input of many interesting cave systems, like the caves crossed by the Indus River and the San Vicente "Santo Tomás", the latter rated among the largest in Latin America, with more 45 km of galleries.
